Answer

This type of reaction is called a neutralization reaction.

Explanation

This type of reaction between acids and alkalis where soluble salts are produced is otherwise known as neutralization reaction. Here, the hydrogen ions (H+) of the acid combine with the hydroxide ions (OH-) of the alkali to give water. The rest of the substance formed from the cation of the alkali and anion of the acid, turns to be a salt. Hence, the reaction is called neutralization because the properties of both acid and alkali are neutralized resulting in the production of salt and water.
