Explanation
An ionic bond is an attractive force that holds together two opposite charges namely cations (positive charges that are mainly formed by metal atoms) and anions (negative charges that mainly originate from non-metal atoms). This says that an ionic bond always happens between metal and non-metal atoms since the metal atoms can lose electrons and form positive ions, while non-metal atoms can accept these electrons and form negative ions. As this happens, the positive and negative ions are attracted to each other, forming an ionic bond. Noble gases usually do not form bonds because they have full electron shells which gives them stability and makes them less reactive, hence they do not form ionic bonds.
