The excerpt below is from the "Declaration on Atrocities" signed by President Franklin Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Premier Joseph Stalin in 1943. [There is] evidence of atrocities massacres and cold -blooded mass executions which are being perpetrated by Hitlerite forces in many of the countries they have overrun and from which they are now being steadily expelled. What step was taken at the end of the war in response to these atrocities? German civilians were murdered in revenge. Germany was destroyed with nuclear weapons. Nothing was done since these acts were considered as acts of war. Surviving Nazi leaders were put on trial at Nuremberg for "crimes against humanity."
