Question

I investigated what effect different materials had on heat transfer. I used four different containers made from four different materials. I filled each container with hot water with a temperature of 50^circ mathrm(C) . I measured the temperature of the water in each container after 10 minutes. My results are shown below. Material & Temperature after 10 minutes Wood & 47^circ mathrm(C) Copper & 31^circ mathrm(C) Porcelain & 44^circ mathrm(C) Zinc & 36^circ mathrm(C)

Answer

material

Explanation

The independent variable in an experiment is the factor that the experimenter manipulates or changes to observe its effect on the dependent variable. In this experiment, the investigator is changing the material of the container to see how it affects the heat transfer, as measured by the temperature of the water after 10 minutes. Therefore, the independent variable in this experiment is the material of the container.
