Because pigeons are born with a natural ability to find their way home across long distances, ancient civilizations like the Persians, Romans, and Greeks realized that the birds could be trained to carry messages. To take advantage of a pigeon's skills, messengers would bring the creature to a new location and then release the bird with a message in it's beak.Once free from the cage the oooo pigeon would instinctively fly home and were delivering the oooo message.
