Explain

Bedrails may seem like a good tool for patient safety, primarily in the case of elderly or disorient patients, who bear a high risk of bed falls. However, unnecessary usage of bedrails can pose unintended harm.
In some cases, bedrails can lead to increased anxiety and agitation in a patient. Being confined in their area of movement may lead to feelings of imprisoned. Hazardously, it can act as a barrier and delay immediate reaction sequences in times of emergencies like cardiac arrest where quick staff access to a patient in vital.
Even more serious is the physical injuries a patient may endure attempting to climb over the rails sometimes leading to falls from heightened distance. Few cases also report injury by entrapment with parts like head, neck, chest, or limbs getting struck within the side bed space between the rails. Cumulatively these factors might illicitly affect the overall care and welfare of the effected individual.
