<p> The Northwest Ordinance was a law categorized under the Articles of Confederation by the American Congress. Its main purpose was to organize the Northwest Territory for purposes of settlement and admission to the union as states. Goal of the Ordinance was to make municipalities and states as opposed to according to older colonistic thinking of building large regions and districts among the colonies. Amongst the conditions given was that a district should be constituting, a minimum population of sixty thousand free settlers to become a state.</p>
