Explain

The Electoral College is a process, not a place. It was established by the United States Constitution as a compromise between election of the President by a vote in Congress and election of the President by a popular vote of the people. The Electoral College is comprised of a certain amount of representatives, known as electors, each of whom cast an electoral vote following the general election; there are a total of 538 electoral votes. The candidate that gets more than half (270) wins the election. Hence, the key role of the Electoral College, adapted in the political context of the United States, is fundamentally associated with the election of the President of the United States.
