## In a parallel circuit, the voltage remains the same for all branches. The quantity that varies, or is split, between the branches of a parallel circuit is the current. When the circuit is parallel, the current flowing through the circuit branches, where the sum equals the total circuit current. So, if you could follow an electron in a loop, it would pass through one or the other resistor but not through both.<br /><br />## Mathematically, this is represented by the formula for total current in a parallel circuit:<br /><br />### **\(I_T = I_1 + I_2 + I_3 + ...\)**<br /><br />## where \(I_T\) is the total current in the circuit, and \(I_1, I_2, I_3,... \) are the currents through the various branches of the circuit.
